What goes up ...

It struck me recently that for all this blog's claims to be about living and writing in West Wales, I tend to be a bit secretive about the writing part!  This year hasn't been plain sailing for all kinds of reasons, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel with my revisions... at least I hope it's light and not the train coming towards me!

What's been strange and wonderful, is that whilst I've been working on my revisions, Turning the Tide has been making a life of its own away from me.  Okay what goes up, must come down but  its current Amazon rankings have really cheered me up... apologies for the trumpet tootle.

That is so cool. Lovely to see Turning the Tide making its very own ripples in the amazon pond, Chris. I loved that book.

Best of luck with the revisions! Hope you reach the tunnel's end soon. x

Oh, thanks, Kath. Felt a bit embarrassed about posting this, but still having to pinch myself. Getting there with revisions - thank you!

I think the picture and the font on this post should have been much bigger and in bold! That's fab. Tootle loudly on your trumpet and don't feel embarrassed. TTT's fans need (and want) to be told of its success.

Thanks Mags - I'm delighted, but I don't want to be Author-Buy-My-Book-zilla!

Chris, if you've got it flaunt it - tell everyone about your success and be proud. I can't wait for the next book, "Turning the Tide" was a great read.
Jane Lovering said…
Yes! You must tell EVERYONE! It is never boring to hear of someone's success, particularly when they are a nice someone. Trumpet it loud!
Kath said…
I have to agree with Jane and Mags. You shouldn't feel bad about trumpeting success like this. You're not one of those writers who just doesn't get social media and simply uses it as a look at me/buy my book tool. You're one of the good guys and it's lovely to be able to celebrate your successes with you.

Liz, hello!, thank you for the support.

Jane, that's kind and it's good to see Please Don't Stop the Music there too.

Kath, thanks - my eyes are a bit prickly with tears at your kind comments, it's been a bit of tough old time.

Whow! That is fantastic and blow your trumpet as loud and as long as possible, you deserve it..... good on you! xx
Chris Stovell said…
Thanks, Pauline... just making the most of the moment!

Well done, Chris! I know you've had some problems this year but no doubt it will all be grist to the writer's mill. Now this soaring up the rankings with 'Turning the Tide' must surely behold you to scribbling a sequel for your readers - 'The Tide Goes Out' and maybe a prequel 'The Tide comes In'

And when you've done with those and MGM is knocking on your door there are the the film scripts 'The Tide Won't Wait' (She ebbed, I flowed) and the mystery thriller 'And the Moon Pulled the Tide,'just waiting to be fleshed out.'

I see you at Cannes!

Have fun.....
Fennie said…
Ooops! Calamity! The mystery thriller was supposed to be 'And the Tide pulled the Moon.' It's got to be that way round to be mysterious, hasn't it. In fact TTT is a bit like the tide pulling the moon when you think about it.
Chris Stovell said…
I'm not holding my breath for Cannes, Fennie... a TV series would be nice, she added, wistfully.
And thank you!

Whoo hooo!!!! that is such good news!
Chris Stovell said…
Thanks, Pondside, it's certainly satisfying to see my first book baby up there.

That's truly wonderful - blow away at your trumpet. I like being famous by association; ahem 'my friend the author'. You deserve the accolade - it should reach #1 if there's any justice in the world.
Cait O'Connor said…
Congratulations! And well deserved'; I know that many folk love the book.
I still remember reading it on a canal boat chugging along the Mon- Brec canal in South Wales - hope the new one isnt too far away now. Bum on seat right now!
Chris Stovell said…
Lins, if it wasn't for support of you and all the people who've been kind enough to comment here so far, it wouldn't be there, so thank you.

Cait, thank you for supporting the book in your work too and for that feedback.

SBS, hello dear heart - I'm still here and the bum is almost glued to the seat in order to get the revisions finished!

Chris, it's really so grand that many, many folks have had the pleasure of reading Turning The Tide. I wonder what I would think if I were ever to know that many folks had seen a drawing, print, or painting that I'd created.

Think perhaps I would levitate.

Bravo to you.

Keep going with the necessaries to get that next novel published.

Best wishes to you and Tom. xo

Frances, they have though - every time one of your many followers visits your blog and sees your creative work. And thank you!

Sue, thank you for the support.

I loved Turning the Tide. It remains one of my favourite reads. So pleased to see it doing well on Amazon. x
Fantastic, go Chris! I loved it too and can't wait for the next one.
Chris Stovell said…
Welcome, Jude and what a generous comment to make, thank you so much!

Elizabeth, thank you. Everyone's been so kind!
Fantatstic, Chris. I think you need to get that trumpet out for a tootle every now and again. TTT was a jolly good read – I'm not surprised it's doing so well. Looking forward to the next one. J x
Completely fabulous! You toot that post loudly m'dear as it's well deserved. I loved TTT as you know, and so did my Mother in Law and friend. Clever lady, you ;)

And I know what you mean about revisions, although it must be tougher for you, already having been published. But you have had rather a lot to contend with. Am sure you'll get on top and the next one will be equally successful.

My First Book Signing!

It’s a fine, dry day and there’s an Italian market in the square outside Waterstone’s. Good for a book signing? ‘Bad,’ says Tim. The stalls are blocking the view of the shop and the fine weather’s keeping everyone outdoors. Hmm, that must be why they’ve only put one small poster up for my event, I mean why waste the Blu Tack? Tim demonstrates handing off the marauding hordes After much refolding of a black tablecloth and a rummage around for some books, I’m invited to take up my position at the author table somewhere between ‘fantasy and horror’, children’s books and a poster of the next author, Bobby ‘Iron Duke’ Windsor who’s signing on Monday. Once Tom, Lily, my lovely daughter, and her partner, Russ, are all sure I’m not going to run away, they leave me to it, taking it in turns to make sure I’m all right and bring me tea. Very soon, I notice a small boy watching me. When he returns with his family I learn that he would like to be a writer. His method, he tells me, is to rewr...

Since You've Been Gone

Well, Ma Mère, There have been so many times when I’ve gathered up all the little shiny moments I’ve collected during the day, ready to present to you in our evening phone call and then I remember all over again that you’re not there. But, Mum, so much has happened since you’ve gone - maybe you know, maybe you don’t - that I’ve decided to write to you instead.  A few days after you died, we sold our house! After all those months! We even joked about you rattling cages somewhere. At first, nothing happened and then suddenly everything happened at a breathless pace and the next thing I knew I found myself driving (yes, me, driving!) along the M4 to Bridgend and the Time Capsule House, the one you said you and Dad would have bought. I remarked, when we first viewed it that if it was meant for us, it would come to us. Over a year later, when it had been under offer twice, we moved in. Oh, Mum, you and Dad would have loved this house; it’s peak Seventies and the decor - the pampas ensu...

Forever Young

Looking at the blurb for my new Lacura WrinkleStop from Aldi, I see that its active ingredient has been ‘proven to help • Reduce forehead wrinkles by 52% • Reduce crow’s feet by 24% • Restrict 82% of wrinkle muscle activity’ That’s quite a claim, isn’t it? Frankly, after years when my face looked like a lunar landscape thanks to the joys of acne, these days I’m just grateful to see a fairly blemish-free skin. Part of me wants to believe that the wonder cream’s making everything looking a bit smoother and tidier, but, hey, there’s also a lot of ‘aqua’ and ‘glycerin’ in the stuff, too. Besides, I could tamper with my skin as much as I like (and I don’t), but I’ve only got to stand next to my beautiful daughters to see the difference. Ma has wonderful skin, so the chances are there are some helpful genes in the mix, but my dad died far too young of cancer, so it’s not all good news. My dad was a carpenter. ‘You can’t get age from a tin, Miss Chris,’ he’d say when rubbing his hands o...
