West to Far West



We're taking Ma for a much-needed break. None of us have visited the far west of Ireland before, but here's the current forecast for tonight's crossing...

'Lundy Fastnet Irish Sea:
South or southwest veering west or southwest 5 to 7, occasionally 4 at first, increasing gale 8 at times in Irish Sea. Moderate or rough, occasionally very rough in Fastnet. Rain or showers. Good, occasionally poor.'

Are you going by ferry or by little sailing boat? Why not go by air?
But anyway have a great holiday. There's a very sad book all about a blighted love affair through which the history of western Ireland is told, highly atmospheric and full of rain and turf. The love affair takes place around a house called Woodbrook, near Sligo. I loved it but because the story was so sad I could never open it again. The book is called Woodbrook and it's by David Thompson, published by Penguin.

Gulp, indeed. Hope you all have a great time and that the crossing isn't to grim. I've never been to Ireland before, which is crazy as most of my ancestors originate from there.

Eek! You'll just do fine, think of what Harry night have said and done! Failing this, open a bottle and enjoy your holiday away from all the house pressures. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you return. x

Have a lovely time once you're there. Ireland is beautiful,and weather forecasts tend to be pessimistic since the Michael Fish pronouncement.

Well, Ma Mère, There have been so many times when I’ve gathered up all the little shiny moments I’ve collected during the day, ready to present to you in our evening phone call and then I remember all over again that you’re not there. Forever Young

Looking at the blurb for my new Lacura WrinkleStop from Aldi, I see that its active ingredient has been ‘proven to help • Reduce forehead wrinkles by 52% • Reduce crow’s feet by 24% • Restrict 82% of wrinkle muscle activity’ That’s quite a claim, isn’t it? Frankly, after years when my face looked like a lunar landscape thanks to the joys of acne, these days I’m just grateful to see a fairly blemish-free skin. Part of me wants to believe that the wonder cream’s making everything looking a bit smoother and tidier, but, hey, there’s also a lot of ‘aqua’ and ‘glycerin’ in the stuff, too. Besides, I could tamper with my skin as much as I like (and I don’t), but I’ve only got to stand next to my beautiful daughters to see the difference.
