Choc-a-Blog!

Yes, I know I’m not supposed to be here, especially when I'm in cybernation wrestling the work in progress into submission, however, I’m just popping in briefly to share some nice news.

Back in November, I left a comment on Preseli ‘Margo’ Mags’s blog after the lovely people from Appliances Online sent her a copy of Nigella’s latest cook book. Anyway, shortly after I announced my blog break I received an email from the Appliances Online folk too, asking if a gift of posh chocolates would help keep my blood sugar levels up whilst slogging away at my desk.

Since my washing machine is making some very strange noises, I did try some blatant blagging a few gentle hints that whilst posh chocs are always welcome, a new washing machine would go down a storm. Clearly, they have my publisher's interest at heart and reckon chocolates will keep me at my desk longer than rushing around doing household chores (no comments about all the extra ballast keeping my bum glued to the seat, thank you – I ran four miles in the icy wind and rain this morning!) since my hinty-hints fell on stony ground. However, today, hurray, this big box of assorted Hotel Chocolat goodies arrived – more than enough to keep me writing and a few spare to peruse the Appliances Online website in my downtime and think about that new washing machine (will just have to make sure I'm not distracted by all the other goodies they supply).

Anyway, I have chocs to eat and book to complete, so excuse me for dashing. I’ll be doing the blog rounds and visiting again in February, but in the meantime huge thanks to Appliances Online for their kind gift... and do leave your comments here... you never know who might be reading!

Chris, I do like the sound of that incoming chocolate. Wow! Runner that you are, I don't think that there's much chance that you will gain even a pound.

Best wishes to you as this new year gets going on the progress I know you are making on the novel.

Oh yum. Was v happy to see a blog from you when none was expected this month, even happier (tho admittedly envious too) to see you're wallowing in delicious chocs. Now desperately trying to think if I might need any appliances that I can write a blog about... is one of those mini Dyson things an appliance? Must check...

Enjoy the chocolates but if the washing machine goes you will lose a lot of time. Buy the best you can afford. Comforting sounds they make washing machines (when not spinning); the sort of sound you could go to sleep by. Almost like waves crashing on a beach. Good luck with the writing. Am shivering at the thought of running in an icy wind.

Hi Just a quick comment as I have only just seen your blog about your Mum. I am so glad that she is on the mend, it must have been horrendous for her and all her family. Luckily for her and you she is obviously a resiliant lady, but no-one should be put through that experience, especially an elderly person. Best wishes to your Mum and the rest of your family and to you for 2011.
P.S If you need any help with those chocs!!!!!

Mmmm Hotel Chocolat. I bought some of their Halloween chocs for my agent and publisher when Heaven Can Wait came out but didn't treat myself. *waves at any Appliances Online PR people reading this*

A Winter's Tale

Thursday 2 December Feeling confined in her snow-muffled flat, Ma takes a walk up her front path to take the morning air. As she returns a cat jumps over the wall and startles her. She slips on the icy path and lands heavily on her shoulder. When her injury doesn’t spontaneously heal, she eventually gives in and calls her local GP surgery. Forever Young

Looking at the blurb for my new Lacura WrinkleStop from Aldi, I see that its active ingredient has been ‘proven to help • Reduce forehead wrinkles by 52% • Reduce crow’s feet by 24% • Restrict 82% of wrinkle muscle activity’ That’s quite a claim, isn’t it? Frankly, after years when my face looked like a lunar landscape thanks to the joys of acne, these days I’m just grateful to see a fairly blemish-free skin. Part of me wants to believe that the wonder cream’s making everything looking a bit smoother and tidier, but, hey, there’s also a lot of ‘aqua’ and ‘glycerin’ in the stuff, too.
